DriveAlign™ Torsional Vibration Dampers Help Eliminate Engine Vibration and Premature Wear of Drive Components
The Gates® Torsional Vibration Damper has been introduced into the aftermarket as a solution product that helps to eliminate engine vibration and premature wear of the drive components.
A Torsional Vibration Damper is a product that is mounted onto the front of an engines crankshaft. It is designed to reduce the twisting motion that occurs in the crankshaft by the power impulses of the engine. These power impulses that are caused by the engine result in torsional vibration in the crankshaft which as a result vigorously twists back and forth.
The vigorous twisting can cause the crankshaft to break or can lead to increased wear of the drive components. Due to the harsh working conditions of the engine, if the torsional vibration is not controlled the vibration of the belt between the pulleys creates belt wear and adds strain on the tensioner and other accessories.
The solution is the Gates® Torsional Vibration Damper which minimises noise and vibration, increases engine component life and minimises crankshaft failure. Gates® recommends that you always check the Torsional Vibration Damper when replacing a multi-ribbed belt. Replacement of the dampening device is required when it can no longer provide reduction of vibration due to wear.
