Melbourne – 25th July 2024 – Gates Australia joined forces with the charity organisation ‘Eat Up’ aimed at addressing childhood hunger in Australian schools. This collaboration aims to tackle the pressing issue of student hunger, with statistics showing that 1 in 4 Australian students arrive at school without having eaten due to various disadvantages they face every day.

Eat Up stands as Australia’s sole organization providing free lunches to students on a national scale. Their impact has been profound, with over 3 million lunches already delivered to Australian kids in need.

To kickstart this initiative, Gates Australia's employees were assembled to prepare lunches for these students. The workforce was divided into two groups, each with the task of making as many sandwiches as possible within a limited timeframe. Group 1, comprising 21 individuals, achieved an impressive feat by crafting 1020 sandwiches in just 60 minutes, equating to an average of 17 sandwiches produced per minute. Meanwhile, Group 2, with 17 members, rose to the challenge and swiftly whipped up 683 sandwiches in a mere 36 minutes, achieving an average production rate of approximately 19 sandwiches per minute. The commitment and efficiency displayed by the employees underscore Gates Australia's dedication to making a tangible impact in the community.

Furthermore, the event was graced by the presence of Andy Low, Vice President & General Manager, East Asia & India, who extended support and enthusiasm to make the occasion even more special. His involvement highlighted the significance of this collaboration and reinforced the commitment of Gates Australia to addressing societal challenges through concerted efforts.

This endeavor exemplifies Gates Australia’s firm commitment to corporate social responsibility and community engagement. By aligning with Eat Up, Gates Australia is proactively contributing to local communities and addressing a critical social issue affecting Australian youth. Beyond the immediate alleviation of hunger, the partnership reflects a broader vision of fostering a supportive environment where students can focus on learning and achieving their full potential.
